LOTOJA 2008 happened this weekend and it was great fun. The picture above is when we were at the beginning at 6:30 am in Logan. It was so beautiful to see all the riders under the temple. Look close and you will see riders up by that house getting ready to start the race.

The race always starts out all smiles. Ben and Whitney wanted to go with us this year. It was cold at the start so Ben and Whitney borrowed jackets from Grandma thank goodness.

I let Ben and Whitney take all the pictures at the race. They took turns and had a lot of fun. This is what our car looked like with all our signs we needed to have on it.

This is our first feed zone in Preston. I didn't realize Jason wasn't stopping. He threw his water bottle and I passed him off another one. Whitney did a great job taking this picture.

This was the torturous climb up Salt Creek Pass. Jason is of course the one in orange. He was almost to the top of the climb in this picture. After this climb he told me he was done. He didn't want to ride anymore. He was in a lot of pain but after a brief massage (from me) David convinced him to get back on his bike and coast to Afton and then see how he is feeling.

Ben loved being his dad's support. Here he is running along side his dad yelling "go dad" as far as he could.

Here Jason is in Afton. He plopped on the grass and had a quick banana and another massage and decided he would continue on the ride. I was proud of him for keeping going. Whitney was really worried about her dad seeing him in so much pain. She kept asking me if dad was going to be okay. Physically yes, mentally, probably not.

We took a small kid break in Afton and let the kids play on the toys. Ben was having fun and decided to stage these pictures.

He looks just a little confused. I can't understand why?

We finally made it to the finish line. We waited and waited. Jason wanted to bad to finish the race in less than 12 hours. We were counting down the minutes.

He made it in 12 hours and 13 minutes. That is 2 minutes faster than last year but it was a lot more painful. He says it was because he was over fed and under trained this year. Which is probably the truth but it makes me laugh.

Here we are at the end of the race. Whitney wanted to walk Jason's "Lucky Bike". I am not quite sure why she called it the lucky bike but she felt it was.

This photo is on Sunday morning at the awards ceremony. Jason and David King received their 1000 mile award. Saying that they are crazy enough to ride this ride 5 year. Crazy. Jason and David are slightly to the right in the orange.
I am not sure at this point if Jason will ride again next year. Whitney is now inspired to ride more. She is excited to ride Little Red with me in June. It will be fun to have her learn the sport of cycling. It is addicting.
